Proton Privacy Suite – Mail, VPN, Drive, Pass, and Authenticator

Why I Recommend Proton – My De-Google Journey to Privacy

For almost a year and a half now, I’ve been using Proton’s suite of services—starting with Proton Mail and now including Drive, Calendar, Pass, and even their new Authenticator. After this much real-life use, I can honestly recommend Proton as one of the best choices you can make if you value privacy, security, and simplicity.

Why Proton?

  • Privacy First
Proton builds all its services around end-to-end encryption and zero-access architecture. That means nobody—not even Proton—can read my data. No ads, no trackers, no hidden profiling.

  • De-Google Step
This is a big step in my personal de-Google journey. If you’ve ever contacted me through my website’s “Contact Me” page, your message went straight into Proton Mail—secure, private, and ad-free.

  • All-in-One Ecosystem
Mail, Drive, Calendar, Pass, and Authenticator—all under one roof. I don’t have to juggle different providers, and I know each tool respects my privacy.

  • Proton Pass (Password Manager)
Manages all of my logins and generates unique, strong passwords. If any old account “whoops” leaks online, I don’t worry—because my Proton-generated passwords are random and unique 🤣.

  • Proton Authenticator
The newest addition, and it fits perfectly into my daily routine: two-factor authentication that syncs across devices while staying fully private.

My Extra Layer of Trust

Beyond Proton, I take backups seriously. I run an old PC as a NAS, and I follow the 4-3-2-1 backup method: 4 copies of my data, 3 types of storage, 2 offsite, 1 offline. (I originally wrote about the classic 3-2-1 strategy, but since then I’ve added USB thumb drives + CDs as a 4th layer.) Together with Proton’s encrypted storage, it’s the safest I’ve ever felt about my data.
